Quickstart

WolfXL 2.1 quickstart

This guide targets WolfXL 2.2.0. Complete the authenticated private-index setup before running the install command.

1) Install

Commercial 2.1 installs from the authenticated private index. Keep the "wolfxl>=2.1" pin: an unpinned wolfxl can resolve to Community from public PyPI.

python -m pip install --upgrade "wolfxl>=2.1" --index-url https://packages.wolfxl.com/simple/
python -c "import wolfxl; print(wolfxl.__version__)"

The version check should print 2.1 or later. To try the MIT Community edition instead, run python -m pip install wolfxl with no private index; see Install for the difference between the editions.

2) Write a Workbook

from wolfxl import Workbook, Font

wb = Workbook()
ws = wb.active
ws["A1"] = "Hello WolfXL"
ws["A1"].font = Font(bold=True)
wb.save("quickstart.xlsx")
wb.close()

3) Read It Back

from wolfxl import load_workbook

wb = load_workbook("quickstart.xlsx")
ws = wb[wb.sheetnames[0]]
print(ws["A1"].value)
wb.close()

4) Modify Existing File

from wolfxl import load_workbook, PatternFill

wb = load_workbook("quickstart.xlsx", modify=True)
ws = wb["Sheet"]
ws["B1"] = "Edited"
ws["B1"].fill = PatternFill(patternType="solid", fgColor="FFD966")
wb.save("quickstart_modified.xlsx")
wb.close()
